A watchmaker synonymous with pushing the limits of horological innovation since 2001, Richard Mille launched the RM 055 Bubba Watson in 2012 as a high-performance sports watch designed to withstand the extreme conditions Bubba put his watches under while on the golf course. Limited to an exclusive run of just 50 units for the Asian market, the RM 055 Bubba Watson Asia Edition that we have here takes the high-performance ethos of the RM 055 and infuses it with updated aesthetics. Featuring a combination of a black ATZ ceramic bezel and caseback sandwiching a midcase of white rubberized titanium, materials chosen for their exceptional strength and lightweight properties, the RM 055’s 42.7mm x 49.9mm tonneau-shaped ensures ergonomic comfort, while the silver accents on the crown, dial rehaut, and hands provide a bright contrast to the blacked-out case. Lacking a traditional dial that might obscure the view of its manual-wind RMUL2, the RM 055 Bubba Watson Asia Edition’s movement was designed to resist shocks of up to 500 Gs, making it perfect for the physical demands of Bubba Watson’s sport of choice, golf. Achieved through some impressive engineering, the RM-055's cal. RMUL2 movement is freely suspended in the case by four shock absorbers that create a link between the case internals, and the movement itself. This system protects against virtually all vibrations, resulting in the watch and its delicate 4.3-gram movement being able to handle a game of golf - something that is notorious for frying watch movements due to the inertia of a swinging arm - while on the wrist of one of the world’s best.
